Design of Manufacturing Processes in Pharmaceutical Industry: The Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Drug Supply
The talk will provide a brief introduction to life as a process chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, and an overview of the challenges and timelines faced to bring a drug substance from discovery to commercial launch. In particular, the talk will focus on how the priorities of the chemist, the chemical engineer, and the manager change as development progresses and how appreciation of the differing pressures faced by these three perspectives may allow better and more efficient teamwork.
The talk is aimed at undergraduate science students thinking about a career in the pharmaceutical industry, although all are welcome.
Dr Scott Gibson
Dr Gibson has over 25 years experience as a process chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, working for companies such as Novartis, Eliem Therapeutics, Indivior, and Cidara Therapeutics. He has managed and mentored chemists, chemical engineers, and analytical scientists throughout his career. Dr Gibson holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in chemistry from the University of St Andrews, and an MBA from Hull University Business School. He is a Fellow of the ÍâÍøÌìÌà (FRSC) and a member of the Hull & East Yorkshire Local Section and North East Regional Steering Group committees.
